Divorce in Georgia

The attorneys at Syrop & Ingle understand divorce and separation can be devastating.  A divorce is not just a legal proceeding; you also must become emotionally divorced and financially reorganized.  At a time when reasoned decision-making is of the utmost importance, you may find yourself emotionally exhausted and feel unable to make even the simplest decisions.  If so, what you need and deserve is a strong advocate who will protect your rights and interests and help you plan for the future.

At Syrop & Ingle, we work with many people who have never set foot in a courtroom or needed an attorney until their divorce.  We work with our clients to make sure they understand each and every step of the process so they can make informed decisions.  Our goal is to leave our clients in a strong position, personally and financially, to start their post-divorce life.

Contested and Uncontested Divorce

Your divorce will fall into one of two categories:  uncontested or contested.  An uncontested divorce is one in which all issues have been agreed upon between the parties.  If any issue is not agreed upon, the divorce is contested and must be resolved by the court.  Disagreements may be over issues involving custody, child support, property division, alimony, and more.

In many cases, an out-of –court agreement can be reached through smart and skilled negotiation, without the need for litigation. Settling important issues amicably has major advantages.  Because you stay out of court, you can finish the divorce more quickly, minimize the emotional strain and drive down costs.  Furthermore, studies have shown that divorcing couples report more satisfaction with the outcomes of their cases when they actively participate in the agreement.  As experienced family law attorneys, we can assist you in settling your case by explaining your legal rights and the likely outcomes based upon similar cases that have gone to trial.

However, we know it is not always possible to come to an agreement without the court’s assistance.  Sometimes aggressive litigation is necessary. Our attorneys have extensive experience in managing complex litigation and high conflict cases. Our expertise is knowing how to best meet the challenges at hand.  This is why we are committed to working closely with you throughout the litigation process to insure that your legal rights are protected every step of the way.
